May 2010 Reverting to a system that fits
The 4-3-3 system has been working so well recently because of two reasons: 1) The front three have been randomly switching positions during the match, freedom to roam and defending from the front not back in the oppositions half which has given the front three more belief! 2) The good form that Kalou is in has made a complete front three not Anelka and Drogba carrying a passenger. Lets face facts are back six of Cech, Ivanovic (my player of the year) Alex, John Terry, Ashley Cole and whoever is holding, are good enough to keep out opposition, attacking other teams home and away is the only way.

January 2010 If we win the league, will it be because or in spite of Ancelotti?
On Saturday, the view from the Harding Lower was a simple one. We’re 5-0 up with 70 minutes on the clock. Sturridge is on a hat-trick, the crowd are chanting his name and he’s playing fantastic. Malouda and Joe Cole are both underperforming. So which one of these three gets substituted? It was baffling. Sturridge needs game time with Drogba and Kalou away. Joe Cole has in my eyes been playing long enough now for the, ‘he’s coming back from injury excuse’, to have worn off. He’s just not playing well enough at the moment. Malouda had a great spell recently but has lost his way over the last few weeks. More importantly, surely Ancelotti has seen Cole and Malouda play enough to have an opinion on both of these players. I am of the opinion though, that the diamond formation has been unfairly criticised. Remember we have beaten Manchester United, Arsenal and Liverpool this season. The games we have failed to get a result have been due to not converting chances rather than the system. Birmingham Boxing day for example, 28 shots to Birmingham’s 5? So at the moment, I’m not sure. All I know is that I don’t feel as assured as I did under Hiddink or Mourinho.
